Like Valentine's Day!
It's true. I'm a hopeless romantic, despite the fact that's not technically what I'd say I write--generally speaking. You all know I've been dipping my toes into it lately. So I asked around, and I'm about to compile an amazing list of romantic scenes for you to revel in in my Valentine's Day countdown. (Believe me; considering the blush-inducing authors I checked in with, this should be good.)
And of course, we're going to start off with me. And of course, I'm going to cheat, in a way. You see, when I asked these ladies to share their favorite romance scene, I specified a book (either written by them or someone else) or a scene from a movie that's based on a book. I'm following those rules--technically. :) And I'm going to put in two, because I'm the boss of this blog and I can.
My first is from The Count of Monte Cristo, the movie, because I don't actually like the book all that much. (Have I ever mentioned how I feel about happy endings?) The reason I sort of feel like it's cheating is because these scene from the movie would've never happened in the book. Have you guessed it? That's right, the scene where Mercedes and Edmond reunite. My sister and I used to be able to recite the entire scene from heart. We frequently turned on the tiny TV and DVD combo in our room and played just that scene. I love it because there's so much hurt and anticipation. Sometimes I still watch it and bite my nails, just in case Edmond doesn't accept her this time. Ahhhhh.
Second, is the look from the BBC version of Pride & Prejudice. Don't try to deny it; you all know the scene I'm talking about. When Darcy looks across the room at Elizabeth--who's helping Georgiana with her music--and he gives her the . . . look. My heart flutters. It's so tender and adoring. It's wonderful.
That's it for me today. Don't worry. I'm sure I'll be sharing more mushy, gushy-ness of my own, but be prepared for some love from some of my favorite writers.
