If you're reading this page, chances are you've read my blog. Maybe even followed it. So you know a few things. Like the fact that I'm a mom and wife first, then writer and editor. I love to edit. Almost as much as I love momming and wifeing and writing. It gives me untold satisfaction when an author finds even one of my million comments helpful. I adore getting a chance to read a really great manuscript. But every minute editing is another minute I'm not momming or wifeing (should this made up word actually be spelled wifing? Hmmm) or editing. That means I need to compensate my time adequately. This is just a long way of saying that I'm changing my rates ... again. And I'm sorry, but it's necessary.
Good news: The rates for Basic Content Editing and Line & Content Editing Combination will stay the same.
I will line and
content edit the first chapter (or 10 pages, whichever is less) for FREE. This
way you can get an idea of what I’ll do for the other services. It’s like the
free sample at Costco. You know exactly what you’ll pay for if you request any
of my services.
Basic Content
Editing ($0.002/word)
In a nutshell, I’ll read through the manuscript. I may make a few comments inside the manuscript. This service will point out general plot holes, questions about character motivation, and believability. You are more than willing to ask that I look for specific problems or comment on specific aspects of the manuscript.

Line &
Content Editing Combo ($0.004/word)
I’ll line edit the first three chapters, which means I’ll mark everything I see, make suggestions to improve, and catch every grammar error I can. After the first three chapters, I’ll content edit; that is, address questions on plot, characters, and believability.
I think this is an excellent choice, because in the first three chapters you’ll be able to see any mistakes or problems that I nit-pik over and apply them to your manuscript as a whole.
This option can be upgraded to “Whole Manuscript Line Edit” after you have received the first three chapters.

The Not-As-Good-But-Certainly-Not-Terrible News: The rates for Whole Manuscript Line Edit have changed.
Whole Manuscript Line Edit (Rate Quoted by Editor)
Authors wishing to receive a quote for this service should send me the first 10 pages of their manuscript. I will review and submit a quote to the author based upon an hourly rate of how long I expect the edit to take. I will return the reviewed pages and the quote to the author, at which point the author may accept or decline my quoted rate.
****NEW**** In-House Edit Service (Rate Quoted by Editor)
With this service, your manuscript will undergo several reviews, until both the author and editor feel satisfied with the work done. When the manuscript it submitted to the editor, she will review it on a "big picture" level. Plot consistency and believablity, Character consistency and believablity, plot holes, etc. will be reviewed. The editor will return the manuscript to the author along with a detailed explanation letter, and then the author will then address those issues and resubmit to the editor. The editor and author will then work through 1-3 more edits before turning attention to technical problems.

Small Print Terms (Literally)
When the author and editor have agreed upon a service and time
frame, a $50 deposit shall be delivered with the manuscript to the editor.
(Payable via PayPal). Editing on the
manuscript will not start until the deposit is received. The timeline (either 20 or 10 business days) will begin from the date the deposit is received.
If, within the first three chapters, the manuscript calls for
significantly heavy edits, the editor may return the manuscript to the author for initial
revision. Once the author has completed the recommended revisions and
returned the manuscript to the editor, the editor will finish editing the
manuscript. If the manuscript calls for significantly heavy revision, the
editor retains the right to return the manuscript in PDF form (as
opposed to .doc or .docx).
Once the editor has finished editing the manuscript, the editor will
notify the author. When full payment has been made, the editor will return the
edited manuscript to the author within two business days.
The editor retains the right to discontinue editing services at
any time during the editing process. In such cases the editor will inform the
author as to the reasons. The author will not be charged the full price of the
editing service. In such cases, if fifty pages or more have been edited and
returned to the author, the editor will retain the $50 deposit fee. If fifty
pages or less have been returned to the author, the $50 deposit may be
refunded.
Contact the editor with any questions or concerns about
these terms.
Any special requests or changes to these terms must be made clear
before sending the $50 deposit and manuscript to the editor. By sending
the editor the $50 deposit and the manuscript to be edited, the author accepts
these outlined terms.
