Have I ever mentioned how cool it is when authors ask me to review their books? It's SO fun. Reviewing THE GUY NEXT DOOR by Kate Palmer was no exception.

Mere weeks before the wedding, Eva is thrown into a traumatic, life-changing event that changes her view of family commitment and creates a sharp contrast between her ideals and Sean’s. With her engagement to Sean in jeopardy, Eva finds herself relying on the support and encouragement of Peter, her kind and attentive next-door neighbor. Faced with a choice between her penitent fiancĂ© and the increasingly mysterious Peter, Eva is unprepared for the consequences—and peril—that come with her decision.
Audience: Adult
The Rating: **** (Really liked it)
The Good: THE GUY NEXT DOOR has a really great mix of romance and thrill with a generous dosing of real-life. I loved that it wasn't just your run-of-the-mill boy-meets-girl with some adventure and twists and turns thrown in. Eva has to deal with tragic circumstances (curse you Kate for making me cry!). I became very involved in the story, sharing in Eva's frustrations, triumphs, and especially the things she learns.
The Bad: I guessed a few things about Peter well before Eva suspected anything, which made me wonder why Eva wasn't seeing what I saw. But, in all honesty, it didn't bother me that much.
The Recommendation: I've heard many people saying lately that LDS romance has moved way beyond fluff literature and this book exemplifies that statement. It's a great read if you love romance, and as I mentioned above, it's got a good dose of depth and thrill too.
Disclaimer: Clean, LDS Romance, Mildly intense moments.

Thanks for posting your review and giving me something to improve for my next book!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for being part of the tour!
ReplyDeleteI have to confess that I had given up on modern day romances because they were either too cliche and predictable, or I was skipping way too much of the book to keep my moral sensibilities calm! I read the first chapter on-line because of my personal friendship with Kate, but sought out and purchased the book at my first available moment because I liked what I read. I too, cried, laughed (Well, more like a chuckle) and was so caught up in the story that I could not put it down after I started. I had to force myself to sleep after Chapter 15 only because I absolutely had to. I too guessed some of the plot points before Eva, but was not annoyed by it. I LOVED this book and I am already looking forward to the next things that Kate produces!
ReplyDeleteI just went through this post and I really found it to be amazing. I like the whole idea. Very well done!
