THE RELUCTANT BACHELORETTE by Rachael Anderson (HEA, 2012)

From Rachael Anderson's BlogUnknowingly cast as the bachelorette for her town’s charity event, Taycee Emerson wants out. Especially when she discovers her old teenage crush, Luke Carney, is one of the bachelors and it's up to the viewers--not her--to decide which bachelors stay or go.

Coerced into participating, Taycee does what any self-preserving girl would do. She launches a subtle attack on Luke’s good name with the hope of getting him voted off the show. Unfortunately, Luke's an eye-for-an-eye kind of guy, and when he discovers what she's up to, it means revenge.

But when their pranks go south, will they screw up any chance they have at a future together, or will they be able to forgive and forget and prove that love really does conquer all?

Review: I think of all Rachael Anderson's stuff that I've read, this might be my favorite. It had good pacing and some great "bachelors." Toward the middle, I almost wondered if Taycee might end up with someone I hadn't been expecting her to end up with. The character was that fun and cool. I love Luke for being a down-to-earth, realistic male character--his cluelessness was perfect without going too far. I had some issues with Taycee's motivations. **Slight Spoilers Coming** At the beginning of the book we learn that Taycee has been in love with Luke for 10 years, I think, and that she will never love another guy like she loves him. This led me to expect that Taycee and Luke had a relationship that ended badly. When I discovered that Taycee had had a crush on him and that it had happened when she was 14-16ish, it caused an eyebrow raise. She was very judgmental of him for not keeping in contact with her when he left--and he'd been 18 and two years older than her. It made more sense when I found out that he hadn't kept in touch with her older brother, Luke's best friend, either.
Still a fun read with awesome characters and great subplots.
Plus, as of writing this post, it's on sale on Amazon for $0.99! Worth. It.

About Me!

I've been writing since I was old enough to grasp a crayon--my grandma even has an early copy of a "book" I made her. I have a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Wyoming and will (hopefully) soon be starting a graduate program in English. When I'm not breaking up impromptu UFC fights in the living room or losing miserably to my boys at Uno, I'm ... well, writing or editing, of course! I'm married to my best friend, and we have three rambunctious but simply amazing little boys.
