Review: CLEMENTINE by Sara Pennypacker

So many of my book recommendations these days have come from the Storymakers '13 conference, and this one is no exception. Even though I had to leave Becca Wilhite's humor class early, I was able to stay long enough for her to recommend a couple books I knew would be fantastic, and CLEMENTINE was one of them.

From Amazon: Clementine is having not so good of a week.
  • On Monday she’s sent to the principal’s office for cutting off Margaret’s hair.
  • Tuesday, Margaret’s mother is mad at her.
  • Wednesday, she’s sent to the principal…again.
  • Thursday, Margaret stops speaking to her.
  • Friday starts with yucky eggs and gets worse.
  • And by Saturday, even her mother is mad at her.
Okay, fine. Clementine is having a DISASTROUS week.

Audience: Children, 7-10
Genre: Chapter Book
Length: 160 pgs.

Rating: ***** (Really Liked It)

Review: Okay, fine. I LOVED this book. I checked it out from the library and started reading it with my 7-year-old. It's summer, he didn't want to spend all day reading. (Whaaat?) So I finished it myself. (It took all of an hour I think...) Fantastic. The voice is so awesome, so humorous. The parts my 7-year-old did read with me, he giggled and giggled.

About Me!

I've been writing since I was old enough to grasp a crayon--my grandma even has an early copy of a "book" I made her. I have a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Wyoming and will (hopefully) soon be starting a graduate program in English. When I'm not breaking up impromptu UFC fights in the living room or losing miserably to my boys at Uno, I'm ... well, writing or editing, of course! I'm married to my best friend, and we have three rambunctious but simply amazing little boys.
