Review: MEG'S MELODY by Kaylee Baldwin

Guys, I'm so embarrassed that I am just now reading this book. I realized it late the other night while on the phone with Kaylee. If you guys didn't know, she's the most fabulous crit partner in the entire world. If my stuff shines, it's because she's been busy buffing it. And as I'm talking to her, she's reassuring me about how even though my WIP "The Game Plan" is in present tense, people will still like it because people liked her book about a woman who falls in love with her OB, and that is weird too.

And it hit me. I hadn't read it.

In my defense, when MEG'S MELODY came out, I knew Kaylee but we weren't BFF/CPs yet, so I plopped in on my TBR list where it got shuffled into a mix of like a MILLION books. Seriously. So in an attempt to atone for my wrong, I downloaded it that very night. (Downside, now I can't get Kaylee to sign it...) And read it in the next two days.

From Ceder Fort: It's only after her husband leaves that Meg finds out she's pregnant. Now facing the prospect of single parenthood, she'll have to rely on the family she pushed away, the church she abandoned, and an unexpected friendship to see her through. This touching story combines romance with real conflicts to remind you it's never too late to find love - if you know where to look.

Audience: Adult (clean)
Genre: Romance, LDS Romance

Length: 256 pgs

Rating: ****

Review: Kaylee always tells me, "Show me how they connect," and she practices what she preaches. I love the build-up of Meg and Matt's friendship. I love how they unfold for each other and for us, layer by layer. I love Matt as a dad--I'm a sucker for a good dad character. It melts my heart. I love Meg's sister Missy because, I think, that might be a teensy bit me. (Although, cross my heart, I don't tell people my family's business. :D) I kept getting lost in the book, rocking my baby and then looking up and realizing that he's been asleep in my arms for over an hour while I read--which is basically a win-win for me. I like how the family dynamics play such a big role in the plot, especially since I have a tight extended family myself. My one beef: I really REALLY wanted Meg to just stick to Johnny and really tell him how horrible he was.

  1. Sounds like a fascinating novel. I'm tempted, but must read the stack I still havn't finished from the ANWA conference. Sigh

  2. I actually purchased this one after Kathy (I Am A Reader Not A Writer) reviewed it. I thought it was good too and also wanted the same thing you did - for her to really give him a piece of her mind. ;)

About Me!

I've been writing since I was old enough to grasp a crayon--my grandma even has an early copy of a "book" I made her. I have a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Wyoming and will (hopefully) soon be starting a graduate program in English. When I'm not breaking up impromptu UFC fights in the living room or losing miserably to my boys at Uno, I'm ... well, writing or editing, of course! I'm married to my best friend, and we have three rambunctious but simply amazing little boys.
