Variety Poetry: Britney Gulbrandsen

Another talented poet who sent me three poems to choose from, and of course, I chose the sweet, touching, romantic poem. See for yourself:

Green Apple Gumballs

The song in my head is a subtle reminder,
A memory of last June,
    A portrait of us—

    Bright red doors,
    Jumping by fountains,
    Lollipops and bubblegum,
    Rain and umbrellas.

The song in my head is fluffy, pink frosting,
    Green apple gumballs,
    Zebra print dresses,
    Waltzes and tangos—

Spinning around.
Black and white tile.
People surround us;
Don’t even notice,
Lost in our bubble.

The song in my head
    Is orange flavored water—
    Tangy yet sweet;
Wetting the mouth with refreshment
As it slides between lips.
Its melody makes me forget
What it is that I’m doing;

And I return to that moment.

The song in my head is polka dots,
    Diamonds.
    Gerber daisies.
    A crisp, black tuxedo.
    The poufy, white dress.

It is my smile.
His eyes.
The way he looks at me.

It is us.

    Intertwined.

About Me!

I've been writing since I was old enough to grasp a crayon--my grandma even has an early copy of a "book" I made her. I have a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Wyoming and will (hopefully) soon be starting a graduate program in English. When I'm not breaking up impromptu UFC fights in the living room or losing miserably to my boys at Uno, I'm ... well, writing or editing, of course! I'm married to my best friend, and we have three rambunctious but simply amazing little boys.
