Review: EDENBROOKE by Julianne Donaldson

I can't remember when I first found EDENBROOKE on my radar, but from the moment I did, I was excited to read it. This doesn't surprise you guys, does it? It's a regency romance, so of course it intrigued me!
From Amazon: "Marianne Daventry will do anything to escape the boredom of Bath and the amorous attentions of an unwanted suitor. So when an invitation arrives from her twin sister, Cecily, to join her at a sprawling country estate, she jumps at the chance. Thinking she'll be able to relax and enjoy her beloved English countryside while her sister snags the handsome heir of Edenbrooke, Marianne finds that even the best laid plans can go awry. From a terrifying run-in with a highwayman to a seemingly harmless flirtation, Marianne finds herself embroiled in an unexpected adventure filled with enough romance and intrigue to keep her mind racing. Will Marianne be able to rein in her traitorous heart, or will a mysterious stranger sweep her off her feet? Fate had something other than a relaxing summer in mind when it sent Marianne to Edenbrooke."

The Rating: **** 1/2 (Really liked it and some)

The Good:
It's witty. It's lovely. The hero shares a name with on of my fave Sarah Eden heroes, Philip (Sarah's is Philip Jonquil of FRIENDS AND FOES). And he's pretty much as awesome as Philip Jonquil. Rather than one huge misunderstanding (because you know that's the standby in most romances!) there are a series of hilarious ups and downs that kept me entertained constantly. As a character, Marianne really got to me. I found myself tearing up in so many instances for good and for bad.

The Bad:
The only thing that took away from my EDENBROOKE experience was it seemed to start slow and took a little bit of time to get moving, but once Philip and Marianne's romance got going, I didn't put it down.

The Recommendation:
Read it and weep. And swoon, giggle, and sigh. You will do all of it. I read it one day.

And I have to share one of my favorite lines: "But this was one contest he would not win. For I had painted my heart on that canvas, and I would not let him have it."

Disclaimer: Nothing to disclaim. There's a reason the publisher (Shadow Mountain) put it under it's new brand "A Proper Romance."

About Me!

I've been writing since I was old enough to grasp a crayon--my grandma even has an early copy of a "book" I made her. I have a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Wyoming and will (hopefully) soon be starting a graduate program in English. When I'm not breaking up impromptu UFC fights in the living room or losing miserably to my boys at Uno, I'm ... well, writing or editing, of course! I'm married to my best friend, and we have three rambunctious but simply amazing little boys.
